Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru, three famous independence fighters who were executed by British colonial overlords, are remembered throughout India.

Shaheed Diwas, or Martyrs’ Day, is observed today. On their death anniversary, known as Martyrs’ Day or Shaheed Diwas, India celebrates the three great liberation fighters Bhagat Singh, Shivaram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar. On Shaheed Diwas, Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered heartfelt homage to Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru. “…these wonderful sons of Maa Bharati’s sacrifice will be an inspiration for centuries in the nation,” Prime Minister Modi tweeted.

M Venkaiah Naidu, India’s Vice President, tweeted on social media in honor to Bhagat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru: “On this day of their martyrdom, I pay my respects to Bhagat Singh, Shiva Ram Rajguru, and Sukhdev Thapar, three intrepid liberation warriors. Many people were motivated to join the independence fight by their unwavering bravery and love for our nation. For their tremendous sacrifice and tireless efforts to liberate our homeland, the nation will be eternally thankful to these heroic souls.”
